General Expectations for Filing a Veterans Disability Claim

Gather required documentation which supports your disability claim. Make sure you meet eligibility requirements for VA disability benefits. Complete the application online or mail the application, or visit VA regional office. Provide supporting evidence along with application. In some cases, the VA may require you to undergo medical examinations. After submitting the application, the review process can take several months so plan accordingly. A notification letter will then be sent to you with a decision. Finally, if you are not satisfied with the decision, you can submit an appeal.

Have You Filed A VA Disability Claim That Hasn't Resolved?

VA disability claims can drag for extended periods of time.  If you have filed your claim and turned in pertinent documentation and attended all of your compensation and pension (C&P) exams and haven’t reached a resolution for over six months or longer—you may want to consider contacting your local congressperson to start a congressional inquiry.
